Sierra Institute is located on a large ranch in the foothills of the
Sierra Nevada near Yosemite National Park. There are many native herbs
and an abundance of wildlife. It is a beautiful and peaceful place to
learn. As a member of United Plant Savers, we are establishing a
botanical sanctuary for the fostering of medicinal plant propagation and
a safe haven for At-Risk medicinal herbs.
The 8 Month Herbal Intensive is for those individuals who have
always wanted to learn more about herbs but weren't sure how to go about
it. This course will give you a firm grounding in herbal knowledge and
hands-on learning experience so you can make your own herbal tinctures,
salves and other useful herb products. No previous knowledge is needed,
only a real love of herbs. The course emphasizes: the foundations of
medicinal herbalism, herbal preparations, medicinal formulation,
techniques of harvesting, drying, and storing plants, wild plant
identification, herb gardening, natural cosmetics, and essential oil
distillation. Working together as a group provides synergism and the
added benefit of learning from everyone's experiences and questions.
The 5 Month Advanced Herbal Intensive covers advanced medicine
making techniques, herbal formulation, case studies, plant ID, mind-body
connection and nutrition.
Both courses meet one weekend a month. The instructor is Dodie
Harte, who has been growing and studying herbs since 1983.
